In the run up to Christmas a band of willing volunteers planted 60 trees in the Churchyard at St Mary’s Church Begelly; the trees, donated by the Woodland Trust, were planted to form a hedge around the boundary.
Afterwards sausage rolls and mince pies were served in the Church Hall to those who had helped.
The following week, a carol service was held in the Church, when a bench donated in memory of the late Ted George, a former Church Warden, was blessed.
Unfortunately due to restricted numbers able to attend services, it was not possible to hold the Crib Service again, although the congregation was able to celebrate Christmas with a Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.
“Upkeep of the Church and Churchyard is becoming increasingly difficult for the small congregation at Begelly,” the Priest in Charge, Rev Steve Brett, explained.
If anyone wishes to make a donation, they are able to do so by accessing St Mary’s online fundraising page at: https://www.justgiving.com/stmaryschurchbegelly or texting the word BEGELLYCHURCH followed by the amount you’d like to give to 70085.
