Residents of East Williamston have stated that they hope that rubbish carelessly dumped in the village of the Easter weekend is not a sign of things to come over the summer.

“Some time late on Easter Sunday evening rubbish was left in East Williamston, which did not come from the nearby houses,” Kathy Talbot, of the East Williamston Community and Hall Association told the Observer.

“Glass bottles were put in a garden waste bin which meant that it was not emptied on the Monday as the grass and garden waste were contaminated.

“In addition, four black bags were left, and by Tuesday the local foxes had had a go and the contents were strewn across the road. This included remnants of takeaways etc, but also paper, cans, bottles and other recyclable materials.

“With the increasing vigilance by the local authorities on what and where you can dispose of rubbish it becomes ever more important that we all, visitors included, sort and dispose of rubbish correctly,” continued Kathy.

“We like to keep our village looking good so local people are taking rubbish and garden waste to the amenity tip.

“Everyone should be obliged to take rubbish home, to the tip or make sure it is put in the right place on the right day and properly sorted.

“If anyone has a holiday accommodation please make sure your otherwise very welcome guests know the rules and have facilities for rubbish.

“We hope this occurrence of rubbish being dumped is not a shape of things to come for the summer,” she added.
