Sir,

County Councils never seem to realise that when they close a village school, they change the whole village. Penally changed in character when that happened. When there were children around, village activities revolved around them, but once the children transferred to Tenby so did their centre of interest.

Penally seems to have become an over 60s enclave and this is reflected in the support given to all events held in the village hall. Maybe there are younger residents who would like to become involved, but are too busy earning a living to volunteer.

Penally has one of the cosiest, most well equipped halls, but it is seldom used on Saturdays and Sundays, which is a shame because it costs a lot to keep it up to standard.

During the week, there are certain regular club fixtures like Bridge every Monday, Short Mat Bowling and Craft Club and, after Christmas, Exercise and Yoga Classes will resume, but the hall could be used for so much more. Parties, dances, youth organisations would all be welcomed. If you have a good idea and would like to know more about how to proceed, please ring 842878.

Marcia Sivell,

Penally.
