This time next year the new waste and recycling regime will be well underway and an update to the planning came this week.

Pembrokeshire County Council plans to introduce a three-weekly black bag ‘risdual waste’ collection along with kerbside sort recycling next year. It is due to be rolled out in March.

A waste working group was set up during the development and consultation of the pan waste changes and has been supporting development and implementation planning.

Clr. Joshua Beynon, the group’s chairman, told the policy and pre-decision overview and scrutiny committee on Thursday that four main issues were discussed at two meetings in August.

The meeting focussed on the use of digital support of efficient and effective waste services, waste and recycling policies across Wales, enforcement updates and waste review implementation plan.

Clr. Beynon said that people could now sign up for text reminders about waste collection and work continued at looking at the processes used across Wales.

He added that 161 fixed penalty notices were issued in the week prior to the meeting on September 20.

Concerns about how the new collections will be rolled out in small villages will be discussed at the group’s next meeting Clr. Michael James was assured.

A matter to be looked at in more detail before roll out was the ‘contentious’ issue of communal piles.
