Pembrokeshire Eclectic Music Society (PEMS) (a not for profit community organization) has organised a wonderful evening of musical entertainment at Burnetts Hill Chapel on Wednesday, September 6. The show will start at 7.30 pm prompt.
Aims of the organisation are to: Inform people about different kinds of music and dance, focusing on traditional music and dance and neo-traditional music and dance; expand people’s experience in different forms of traditional-based music and dance; organise events in Pembrokeshire and West Wales to help fulfil the above aims.
And the show at Burnetts Hill is sure to do just that.
Performing will be the Hot Rock Pilgrims, an old-time/bluegrass super-group featuring some of the most exciting young pickers in the south east of England. Together they will take you on a high-energy pilgrimage of Appalachian music and its descendants.
Since their formation in 2014, they have performed up and down the country, at many art centres, folk clubs, and bluegrass festivals.
The band consists of five fantastically talented young musicians from near and far, although most of them are now settled in the south-east of the UK. They have recently added a new member and have a new album which is to be launched on August 31.
Hubert Murray (vocals, guitar) is an extraordinary singer and guitarist from Galway, Ireland. Having cut his teeth on the Irish pub circuit for many years, he moved to London to perform his own beautifully crafted folk and blues songs. In a short time he has become one of the best bluegrass singBlers and guitar flatpickers in the country.
Bruno Pichler (dobro) has studied the resophonic guitar for many years. Drawn towards music from an early age, he has played drums in a heavy metal band from the tender age of 10, electric bass in a blues band at 20 and nylon string guitar in the closet aged 30 before finally finding his calling as a dobro player in a bluegrass band. He is now a regular at bluegrass festivals and often visits the USA where he was recently placed second in the prestigious Rockygrass Dobro contest in Colorado.
Kieran Towers, the newest member of the Hot Rock Pilgrims, originally hails from the Lake District. Kieran is deeply rooted in Appalachian music and is well versed in both old-time and bluegrass fiddle styles. He has been very active in the UK scene for many years, playing with acclaimed bands such as The Loose Moose Stringband and the Somers Bluegrass Band. He is a magnificent fiddle player and an absolute powerhouse of talent.
Dan Edwards (vocals, banjo, guitar) fell in love with the banjo when he was studying at the University of Texas in Austin. Since moving back to the UK, he has established himself on the London and Brighton muic scene as a well-renowned musician and a prolific teacher.
Sam Rose (double bass) was raised in Britain’s Bluegrass capital Helsby and has been a regular at the Bluegrass school, Sorefingers Summer School (which flies the top American bluegrass and old-time musicians over to teach bluegrass in the UK for a week) since he was 14 years young. He has recently graduated with a first-class honours in Guitar Performance (Bmus) from The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London.
