Second World War veteran Ted Owens celebrated his 98th birthday with the help of the VC Gallery, Pembroke Dock.

Ted Owens served as a Royal Marine Commando throughout the Second World War, taking part in the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944.

“The title ‘legend’ gets bandied about far to often for a social media generation of people who have not actually achieved that much,” said a spokesman at the gallery.

“But today at The VC Gallery, Pembroke Dock we celebrated a true hero: Ted Owens. Second World War Sword Beach Marine. 98 years young. Those who have met him never forget him. A real generation of gentlemen we can only look up to in awe. Now that’s a ‘legend’.”

Mr Owens’ birthday celebrations took place on Friday, August 12, 2022.
