‘Turning the clock back 60 years’ is how Tenby town crier and councillor Jim Cornwell, described competing in the British Masters Athletic Championships, held recently.

Competing in the over 75 year age group, Clr. Cornwell was up against the best in the country, with over 745 athletes taking part, some travelling down from Scotland.

“At 15 years of age, I won my first athletics medal, so was proud to receive a Silver in the 400 metres and Bronze in the 800 metres at this years Championships, held in Derby,” he said.

“Most of my running during the past 60 years has been competing in marathons, half-marathons, and 10Ks.

“It has taken me all over the country, from Edinburgh to London and even included running around the track at Silverstone Racing Circuit.

“Obviously, at age 75 years, I am delighted to be so fit but hope my story will inspire people of all ages to take up whatever physical activity they enjoy and just get going!” he added.
