A YOUNG Narberth man, Chris Walters, is celebrating this week after winning the Retail Industry Awards store manager of the year award at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on September 25 - at the tender age of just 25!

The Retail Industry Awards are the 'Oscars' of the grocery industry and attract entries from all of the UK's major supermarkets and convenience retailers.

Chris, who is a store manager for Blakemore Retail's Company Owned Stores division (formerly Capper & Co Ltd), started when he was just 23 and is now based in the Spar Store in Lampeter.

Chris, who still lives in Narberth but commutes every day, said: "I am delighted to haev won the award - not only to bring my award back to Wales, but to also celebrate a very tough competition. I have to thank my boss Paul Morris for all his support and my whole team at Spar Lampeter, including everyone who has backed me over the last few years - without them my award wouldn't have been possible! It's a pleasure to go to work in a great store with a great team for a great company!"
