The Tinman Tuesday project set up by Wyndham Williams and friends in Narberth at the end of May has sparked off successfully, with 11 new Tinman Tuesday groups formed across the county supporting local Foodbanks (writes Sharron Hardwick).

Kindness is becoming contagious not only with those setting up the Tinman Tuesday groups, but in those who are hearing and reading about them. One resident read all about Tinman Tuesday Kilgetty And Surrounding Areas in the Tenby Observer last week and she wanted to help: “It is so sad to think that people are struggling to feed themselves and their families. When I saw that Tuk Tuk Time were collecting for the Tinman Tuesday project I wanted to help so I gave them a cal,” shared Jane.

Jane lives in a Kilgetty cul-de-sac. On VE Day her street, like many others, held social distancing VE Day celebrations, but their celebrations did not end there. Every Friday at 3 pm the neighbours come together at a safe distance. Each household sits at the end of their driveway with a cup of tea and some cake, while residents Paul and Sue lead a quiz.

It was during last Friday’s social gathering that Jane brought out a box for the Tinman and everyone donated a tin. Her one act of kindness was the spark which ignited further support. A similar street group collection was made by Wendy Morse who put out a donation box last week. It is hoped that other residents might follow suit.

“We would love to see other streets follow the example of Jane, Wendy and their neighbours. If you are reading this and you are able to safely chat to your neighbours, please let them know about Tinman Tuesday. Perhaps you can put out a box for your street, encourage neighbours to donate a tin, a packet of food or toiletry item. Please let us know if you want to make a donation and Tuk Tuk time will be able to collect from your street in Kilgetty and surrounding areas,” said the Tinman Tuesday Kilgetty And Surrounding Areas team.

The next Tinman Tuesday Kilgetty And Surrounding Areas collections will take place on Tuesdays, June 16 and 30. Tinman Narberth continue to run weekly collections.
