Sir,

I read with interest the letter from Eric Howells headed ‘Life does not end in Cardiff’ in your paper dated July 21.

Mr. Howells suggests that the existing railway to West Wales as no better than it was when built by Brunel, in relation to speed of travel. May I suggest that is because of the amount of stops the train does on its journey and the time has come to close some of the stations on the route. He also proposes upgrading the road network to Angle, St. Davids and Fishguard as necessary, what for, just to save a few minutes driving time? The only time I witness road congestion on route to Cardiff and Pembrokeshire is at Carmarthen and then only for short periods of the day and year.

I am sure it would be more beneficial to finance HS2 to support the industrial areas of the Midlands and North of England than rural Pembrokeshire.

I am aware that during the recent election, the Labour Party, under Jeremy Corbyn, promised everything to everybody, with no personal cost to themselves, in the hope of finding the money tree. Maybe Mr. Howells has inside knowledge and the Conservatives have found the tree.
