Seminar Cyfraith Hywel, one of two academic societies that meet twice a year to discuss matters relating to medieval Welsh law, returned once again to the Hywel Dda Centre at Whitland on Saturday, September 28.

County councillor Sue Allen, chairman of the Hywel Dda Management Committee, welcomed the visitors on their second visit to Whitland, their previous visit being in 2005.

Morfydd Owen, senior member of Seminar Cyfraith Hywel, presided.

Distinguished speakers during the morning were president of Seminar Cyfraith Hywel, Professor Thomas Charles-Edwards, of Oxford University; Professor Dafydd Walters, Edingburgh University; Professor Paul Russell, Cambridge University; and Morfydd E. Owen, retired Research Fellow and Lecturer in the University of Wales.

The distinguished speakers during the afternoon were Morfydd Owen and Dr. Sara Elin Roberts, legal historian.

The organiser, Professor Charles Russell, secretary and treasurer of Seminar Cyfraith Hywel, said that it was a most enjoyable event and thanked all committee members and wives of the Hywel Dda Management Committee for all their support, especially the secretary, Ken Rees.

The president of Cymdeithas Hywel Dda, Mr. Haydn Lewis, thanked most sincerely members of Seminar Cyfraith Hywel for their generous donation, and for organising this seminar at The Hywel Dda Centre. He stated that it was a pleasure to have them at the Centre and he looked forward to their next visit.
