Sir, I would like to bring to the attention of your readers, the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales’s review of electoral arrangements in the county of Pembrokeshire.
Part of the draft proposal seeks to amalgamate the two communities of Manorbier and Penally and dismantle the current ward of Penally which includes the communities of St. Mary out Liberty and Gumfreston. The proposed new ward would be named ‘Manorbyr a Phenalun’ (English language name of ‘Manorbier and Penally’).
The Welsh Language Commissioner is in agreement with the proposed names.
These boundary arrangements were deemed as ‘satisfactory’ at a Pembrokeshire County Council seminar earlier this year.
This seminar would not have been webcast or open to the public, yet a recommendation to approve the outcome of the seminar was subsequently put to full council on July 26, 2018.
I was one of only two County Councilors who raised an objection, with all other members voting in favour.
Should anyone wish to make representation to the boundary commission, they should do so no later than September 24, 2018 by writing to: The Chief Executive, Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales, Hastings House, Fitzalan Court, Cardiff, CF24 0BL or email to: [email protected]s
Jonathan Preston
County Councillor Penally Ward
