Tenby Town Council has given notice that two councillors have ceased to be members of the Council through persistent non-attendance at meetings.

Section 85 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that if a councillor fails throughout a period of six consecutive months to attend any meeting of the authority, or of a committee, sub-committee, joint committee or joint board, they shall, unless the failure was due to a reason approved by the authority before the expiry of that period, cease to be a member of the authority.

As the councillors concerned, Joe Criddle and Laura Crockford, did not attend any qualifying meetings during the statutory period, and no prior approval for absence was granted, their seats have become vacant with immediate effect.

The vacancies will now be notified to the Returning Officer at Pembrokeshire County Council in accordance with the relevant statutory procedures.
