A ‘Tenby Together’ Facebook group has been set up as a place for people to offer help and assistance during the COVID-19 crisis.

“This page is to encourage people to use it as a form of communication for businesses in the town who are offering any sort of service to the over 70s and vulnerable, and also to give an opportunity to people to make offers of help to anyone in the locality at this time,” said Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall who has been working with fellow town councillors and Tenby town council to set up and moderate the group which has already attracted nearly 1,000 members.

The town council distributed leaflets around the community over the past few days with advice on support during the pandemic - aiming to reach those not on social media.

The council has asked for volunteer groups/businesses to inform them as to what services/assistance they can provide to the local community so that they can build up a database to point those that contact their offices in the right direction for help.

The leaflet offering support will is aimed at those in the most vulnerable categories, such as: anyone aged over 70; those with immune deficiency; those with underlying health conditions; and anyone with symptoms of COVID-19.

“The leaflets were dropped by volunteers last week, requesting volunteers and asking for people requesting help to get in touch with the town council offices at the De Valence,” she continued.

“We have had support from many members of the public and also members of Plastic Free Tenby who are helping to co-ordinate this.

“Lists are being compiled by the council to see who can be assisted and by whom. If in doubt please contact Tenby Town Council who will be the main form of communication during this time, as they are co-ordinating these various initiatives to ensure that people can receive assistance.” continued Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall.

“There are so many wonderful people in Tenby and the surrounding area pulling together to help others in these unprecedented circumstances,” said the town clerk Andrew Davies.

“If you require support please contact the office for assistance. If we are unable to assist directly, we will be able to put you in touch with someone who can,” he added.

If you would like to assist in a volunteer capacity, you can also contact the town council via telephone on 01834 842730, email at: [email protected] or [email protected] and via Facebook. To protect staff and the public, the decision has been made to close Tenby Town Council office located at the De Valence Pavilion. For replacement food waste bags please contact Pembrokeshire County Council on 01437 764551.
