STAFF and volunteers from the Cancer Research UK shop in Tenby in Tudor Square are uniting for World Cancer Day tomorrow (Saturday, February 4).
The team are calling on men, women and children across area to pay their part by wearing a Unity Band or donating, to help beat cancer sooner.
The Unity Bands are made of two parts, knotted together, to symbolise strength in unity and the power of what can be achieved when people join forces.
The bands come in three different colours and are available in all Cancer Research shops for a suggested donation of £2 as well as online at www.cruk.org.uk/worldcancerday.
The shop team will be marking the global awareness day with in-store activities that include a cake sale, grand prize draw and unity band sales. Earlier this week, staff member and trained manicurist Emelie Allman gave expert manicures to customers and even Ross the store’s van driver, and raised £70 for the World Cancer Day total.
Maureen Lower MBE a volunteer at the shop has also been putting her baking skills to the max and selling various cakes at a stall in the store.
Volunteers from the charity will be taking part in collections in Tesco Express in Tenby’s Tudor Square on Saturday, between 12 and 2pm, where supporters will be able to get a Unity Band and make a donation.
The Unity Band is made of two parts, knotted together, to represent strength in unity and the power of what can be achieved when people join forces.
Cancer Research UK Shop Manager, Lorraine Kucuk, said: “Many of our staff, volunteers and customers have lost family and friends to cancer and so we know how devastating the disease can be.
“One in two of people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. We want to encourage everyone to show their support by wearing a Unity Band and pleading support so we can beat cancer sooner,” she added.
