Tenby Museum and Art Gallery have launched a Crowdfunding project to help it connect with the community during the pandemic and those that are visually impaired.
This week, with the help of Aviva, the Museum which has been closed since the pandemic hit last year, launched the ‘Hear to See’ project - which will see the Museum rewrite and record descriptions of paintings, objects, photographs and other items so that the visually impaired and others can access and enjoy items in the Museum’s collection.
The audio descriptions will be available online and, once the Museum is open, in its galleries.
“As part of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery’s plans to be with our communities and considering those who are less able to enjoy all that the museum has to offer, and while we can’t make Castle Hill less steep, we are working in other ways,” explained Trustee Kathy Talbot.
“We’ve already put a braille map of the museum outside and now we want to share many of the descriptions and stories that Mark, our Curator, has put on Facebook over the past year.
“We hope to extend this so that we not only talk about the objects but give visitors an opportunity to handle them.”
Anyone can pledge to help the Museum reach its target of £500, or beyond, by going to: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/hear-to-see.
“The more we raise the more we can do!” continued Kathy.
“We’d welcome ideas from the community on what they’d like of Tenby Museum - just email us at [email protected].”
