Another glorious spring day dawned on Wednesday, April 27 and made a visit to the beautiful Giltar Hotel on Tenby’s Esplanade the perfect way to spend the afternoon for guests, carers and volunteers at Tenby Memory Café. The group continues to go from strength to strength and is now able to provide a range of activities and get-togethers for those in our community living with dementia.

On the first Wednesday of each month a Games Morning is held at the Regency Hall in Saundersfoot, with a lunch at Manorbier’s Potting Shed being the event on the second Wednesday. The third Wednesday is the Walk and Talk stroll, in and around the Saundersfoot area and the monthly TMC meeting is held on the fourth Wednesday, as always, by generous invitation of the proprietors of the Giltar Hotel. Last week the guests enjoyed a “Who’s Who?” quiz, which produced lots of laughter and lots of mistakes! The members present were delighted to welcome Lea from the Family Foundation. Lea was a charming and engaging visitor and was full of information relating to free training available for people living with dementia, their carers, families and friends. She was pretty impressive at the quiz too!

TMC has recently been extremely fortunate and has received a generous donation from the Saundersfoot Treasure Chest, to be used for the purchase of resources for the Games Morning. A further donation was also made by this excellent village group in order to assist in the procedure to make Saundersfoot a Dementia Friendly Community as soon as possible. Saundersfoot Rotary Club has led the way and has already purchased and is using the attractive Dementia Friendly floor mat at its meetings.

Further wonderful news was shared at TMC when congratulation were expressed to the indomitable Cherry Evans, the guiding light and inspiration of TMC. Cherry and TMC treasurer John Walker-Smith recently attended an award ceremony in Cardiff at which PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services) won an award for the Dementia Supportive Communities project. This took place at the Social Care Wales Accolades Ceremony. This DSC initiative is most definitely as successful and positive as it is because of Cherry’s commitment and energy and everyone at TMC was thrilled to be able to pass on good wishes and some delicious fizz in recognition of all that has been achieved.

New guests, carers and volunteers will be assured of a warm welcome at any and all activities provided by TMC so please consider a taster visit to any of the events. Please look on Facebook for information about a wide range of events, activities and groups throughout Pembrokeshire. Cherry Evans can be contacted by telephone on 07849 086009 or by email at [email protected]

Tenby Memory Café will soon have its own website, where details may be accessed of the group’s regular activities.
