On Saturday, the Celvac sponsored Tenby and District Swimming Club ventured east to the Rhondda for the Glyn and Margaret Harris invitational gala.
Glyn and Margaret are stalwarts of the Rhondda swimming club with 80 years of coaching and dedication between them. Tenby were lucky enough to be invited to their annual gala this year, along with Cwmbran, Barry and Merthyr Tydfil
It was a sprint gala with 25-metre races for the younger swimmers, 50m sprints for the older ones and plenty of relays to crank up the volume of all the supporters.
In total, 32 swimmers travelled accompanied by four officials and six coaches.
The racing was fast and furious and at the half-way point, Tenby were in second place, two points behind home team Rhondda. With 10 races to go, there was six points in it - Tenby still in second place.
In the end, Tenby finished a creditable fourth place, with only 10 points separating the winners, Rhondda on 205 points and Tenby on 195.
It was a really refreshing gala. Tenby were made to feel extremely welcome and the swimmers enjoyed themselves, especially from the food stop they had on the way home.
A big thank you must go to the Rhondda Swimming Club for inviting Tenby, in particular their chairman Andrew Draper, Glyn and Margaret Harris for setting up the gala, and all of the Tenby Dolphin swimmers, officials and coaches who attended.
Sunday is the RAOB Gala at Pembroke - please make every effort to attend if you are selected.
