A Tenby youngster diagnosed with a muscle and joint condition has been presented with a specially adapted bicycle influenced by his favourite superhero!
Five-year-old Ted Mills-Mcbeth, a pupil at Ysgol Hafan Y Mor, who has been diagnosed with Hypertonia and Hypermobility - genetic conditions which affect his muscle and joint movements, was given the specially adapted bike by Withybush Hospital, but given a special makeover for free by Neil Duffy at Pembrokeshire Tyres, based at The Green, Tenby.
“Ted’s physiotherapist based at Withybush Hospital got in touch about the bike, and my brother Jon, of Tenby Cycles, stripped it down, and Neil kindly gave it a brand new spray job, featuring the colours and emblem of Ted’s favourite superhero Batman, who he is crazy about!” explained Ted’s father Jamie.
Ted, who is also missing part of chromosome 15 and has a muscle anomaly, has to wear a full compression body suit at times, to help his core strength, otherwise parts of him are susceptible to dislocating.
Both his father Jamie and mother Sara said that they were very touched by Neil’s generosity in revamping the bike for free, whilst Neil remarked it was worth it just to see the smile on Ted’s face as he took to his new ‘caped crusader’ style wheels for the first time.
