A Tenby restaurant is celebrating following its recent success at the first-ever Welsh Asian food awards.
An award ceremony was held at the Exchange Hotel on Monday, December 2, in Cardiff, where owners of Nora’s Kitchen in Tenby Nora and Richard Gower were on hand to pick up their prize in the Malaysian category.
The event is the first of its kind and exists to recognise and reward a variety of Asian restaurants, takeaways and eateries across Wales.
Nora and Richard founded the business based at Tenby Market Hall two years ago.
Nora is originally from Sabah Borneo which is also known as the Land Below the Wind.
Nora is one of the natives of Sabah Borneo called kadazandusun tribes. They are well known as the headhunters of Borneo.
Ten years ago Nora came to Tenby to be with her husband Richard. Nora began to cook a lot more as she started craving for Malaysian food. From then on, Nora got hooked with cooking and the rest is history!
Nora uses all fresh ingredients such as galangal, lemongrass, turmeric, garlic, ginger.
She said: “It feels absolutely awesome. We didn’t expect to win this because we are not a big restaurant just yet, we are a small business.
“It’s been two years and the response from all our customers has been absolutely amazing.
“We would like to thank all our customers who have supported us.”
Richard Gower added: “Nora does wonderful things in the kitchen, she’s been fantastic.
“The response from the customers has been fantastic and amazing.
“All the comments that have been on TripAdvisor have been great.
“We were quite shocked when we won. We had to do a speech on the podium, it was fantastic.”
Despite the success, the owners have remained tight-lipped on what the future holds for the award winning restaurant - so the question of what’s next will surely be on everyone’s lips in the months ahead!
