A free community event for people in Narberth has been lined up for June.
Shelter Cymru's pioneering 'Information matters to rural communities' project works with local organisations to provide practical information on a wide range of issues, including housing, debt, welfare benefits and rural well-being.
And on June 12, the project team is hosting a special event at the Queen's Hall in Narberth to highlight the services available to people in rural areas. Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Ruth Platt, will be present to officially open proceedings, which run from 11 am-2 pm.
Project co-ordinator Ceri Wisdom said: "It can be quite difficult for people in rural areas to get access to advice and support services, so Information Matters is all about giving people in these areas the resources they need to help themselves.
"The summer events are a fun and informal way for local people to meet the Information Matters team and find out about all the different services and support available in their area. We will be offering free refreshments and children are very welcome as SuperTed will be making a special appearance!"
Established in October 2007, the Information Matters project is supported by the Big Lottery Fund.
The project team has produced a free, bilingual resource pack with comprehensive guidance on how to access information on a range of matters affecting rural communities. So far, more than 100 different groups across west Wales have got involved, helping to distribute and raise awareness of the information pack. Copies of the pack will be available at the events.
"The project can also offer volunteering opportunities with free training and the team will be happy to speak to you or your group no matter how rural you may be," added Mrs. Wisdom.
