Held annually on an ideal site at the former Carew airfield, the agricultural show put on by the Martletwy and District Young Farmers Club never fails to attract some of the very best livestock entries from across West Wales.
On a bright and breezy day, this year’s popular show was no exception as committee chairman, Paddy Evans remarked: “As a committee, we are always aiming to improve everything to add to the enjoyment of the occasion and we welcome all constructive suggestions to this effect.”
Supreme from the horse and pony classes was Judith Reed’s home bred Section A brood mare, the six-year-old dark grey Haverford Ivy shown with her pretty filly foal.
Taking best from the beef cattle entries was another fine home bred animal, the 17-month-old Limousin bull Deri Jiffy shown by Terry and Dawn Griffiths, and from the dairy cattle lines, it was the June calved third calver, Tredduog Alliance Review, that led the parade for Ben and Sian Evans.
A yearling and a couple of two-year-old Black Welsh Mountain sheep from the breeding flock of Bethan and Alan Davies took the group of three award in this division and the winning individual was a superb Hampshire Down ewe from Eirlys, Barry and Stuart Jones.
Best in show from the keenly-contested companion dog classes went to Bo, a two-year-old Whippet male shown by Martin Bristow.
