There will be a rare opportunity on Friday (August 17) to hear three of Pembrokeshire’s most gifted musicians together at St Mary’s Church in Tenby.

Soprano Sarah Benbow?is a former Pembroke School pupil. Sarah is renowned for her vocal diversity. She is an excellent Jazz performer, superior classical singer and powerful popular vocalist.

As the current music co-ordinator for Pembrokeshire, Sarah directs and nurtures the talents of students from across our county.

She is the musical director for the acclaimed Bella Voce choir, whom she led to a full standing ovation at the Royal Albert Hall, London in May. Multi-talented Sarah, is a former member of the National Youth Orchestra and Choir of Wales.

She has sang as a soloist and chorister for a wide variety of ensembles and audiences across the UK and regularly features on BBC Radio Wales and S4C.

Pianist Iestyn Griffiths is a former Sir Thomas Picton School pupil. Iestyn is in the final stages of completing an MA at Cardiff University, specialising in Piano.

Having completed two consecutive seasons as Musical Director for Tranquility Camp in New York, he is in demand throughout Wales as a soloist, accompanist and musical director.

This year, he has founded the company ‘City of Stars’; a 60+ Orchestra committed to the biggest and best Broadway tunes. The company has already enjoyed sell out concerts in Cardiff, attracting some of Wales’ top rising stars to perform as soloists. He recently was awarded the “Worshipful Livery Company of Wales Music Award”.

Violist Lily Whitehurst, a former Greenhill School pupil, is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester with Yossi Zivoni supported by the Arts Council of Wales and the Laurin and Arthur Glaze Trust.

She has recently been appointed as a member of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and continues to work with orchestras such as The Halle, Manchester Camerata, Northern Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Cymru.

“This promises to be a very special evening. Featured are three of Pembrokeshire’s home-grown talents, all of whom have gained experienced and developed their skills through Pembrokeshire’s unique and valuable music service which alongside the individual hard-work, dedication and commitment, has led to outstanding career paths in music,” said event co-ordinator Lisa Shelmerdine Richards.

The concert is not to be missed as it is becoming increasingly challenging to secure home dates in the busy performance schedules of these individuals.

“Pure chance has led to this small window of opportunity, where all musicians were available to perform. Lily for example is home for a very small period of time before embarking on a tour with Manchester Camerata to China,” added Lisa.

All three performers are delighted to be performing in Pembrokeshire in the glorious setting of St Mary’s Church in Tenby, with the concert commencng at 8 pm.
