A moderate entry of grazing cows and overage cattle were forward on Saturday with trade generally continuing to be in line with the national average.

Barren cows sold to an average price per kilo of 78.20p or £463. Top price per kilo was 115p for a 555 kilo Limousin from Bowen, Hengil Isaf, Peniel Road, Carmarthen, and bidding peaked at £815 for a 740 kilo Limousin from Tanner, Gelli March Farm, Cadoxton, Cardiff. Overage steers sold to a top price per kilo of 108p for a 610 kilo Limousin from Webb, Cilvoden, Narberth, with a leading bid of £735 for a 790 kilo Charolais from Williams, Penalltfangor, Talog.

An improved entry of almost 500 store cattle resulted in heifers selling to an average price of £481 and steers levelling at £547. Steers sold to a top price of £970 for a Belgian Blue from Rees, Avola Farm, Red Roses, Whitland, and heifers to £905 for a Belgian Blue from Walker, Wernlas, Porthyrhyd; Bulls made up to £470 for a Welsh Black from Washbourne, Cwm Coch, Llysonnen Road, Carmarthen.

Special entries of Holstein Friesian dairy cattle drew many buyers to the ringside resulting in a fast trade. The in-calf heifers from Thomas and Sons, Berllan Dywyll, Llangathen, sold to a top price of £1,320, with other making £1,280, £1,260, £1,250, £1,220, £1,200, £1,180, £1,120, £1,100, £1,020, £1,000 and £900; Murphy, Treleidir Farm, St. David's, sold at £1,060, £1,040, £940, £920 and £900 and a group of bulling heifers from Kedward and Co, Hafod, Llanboidy, sold to a top price of £740 and others at £710, £580 and £500.

Another excellent entry of suckler cows and in-calvers forward - mostly Limousin crosses - resulted in a top price of £1,270 - also £1,010, £940 and £925 - from Thomas, Glanafon, Dolgran, Pencader, with others at £1,230 from Evans, Coed Howell, Cwmfelin Boeth; £1,150, £1,040 and £960 from Rees, Trecelyn, Eglwyswrw; £1,050 from James, Pengawse, Whitland, and £970 from Williams, Marchgwyn Uchaf, Efailwen. In calvers sold to a top price of £770 for a Limousin from Davies, Plasgwyn, Croesyceiliog.

In the sheep section, an entry of 13 rams forward selling to a top price of £140 and £120 from Thomas, Brynderwen, Clynderwen, with others at £125 (x2) from Austin and Son, Burry Dairy Farm, Reynoldston, Gower, and £120 (x3) from Clements, Tygwyn Farm, Letterston. Breeding ewes and in-lambers made up to £60 from Williams, Haulfan Farm, Pontyfenni, and store lambs to £33 from Wise, Shipping Factory, Valley Road.
