Dull November mornings may not tempt many out for a walk, but when you are a member of the Steps2Health group there is no question of having an extra hour under the duvet on a Saturday morning, no matter how cold and dismal it may be (writes B.S.).

Actually, last Saturday, which was one of the best days of what had been a wet and windy week, saw 30 walkers keen to get striding across Lydstep Headland.

Assembly point was Celtic Haven back car park. The route then led down the badly potholed lane to turn right onto the headland.

The terrain was muddy in places, more so having been churned up by livestock, although no cows were to be seen - much to the relief of some!

With steep and slippery paths to negotiate, it is re-assuring to be accompanied by trained walks leaders.

Paul and Brian oversaw the longer walk, keeping everyone well away from the sheer cliff edges. But no accidents as all enjoyed the stunning, if rather hazy, views.

Leaving the high ground behind, this group crossed the stile and followed the path downhill through woodland until reaching the road. They continued downhill to sea level passing through the caravan park to make their way back up through the marked woodland path to Celtic Haven.

The shorter walk, with Barbara, Janice and Erica, kept to the headland where they were amazed to spot some giant-sized toadstools. Surely there must have been elves and pixies lurking nearby such picture book specimens!

The morning was rounded off in sociable style with coffee in Waves restaurant, Celtic Haven. Sea views could still be enjoyed while enjoying refreshments, especially as the sun now burst forth!

Tomorrow (Saturday) meet 10.30 rear of the bus shelter, Upper Park Road, for a town walk.
