A spa therapist specialising in beauty therapy from St Brides Spa Hotel, Saundersfoot, has competed and won the World Skills Beauty Therapy competition at a Regional Level for Wales.

Zara Morgan, age 20 from Whitland, gained her Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification from Pembrokeshire College and was nominated by her course tutors to enter the contest.

Zara was challenged to perform two treatments to exceptionally high standards and was judged by three World Skills judges at the competition in Weston Super Mare in June earlier this year. Due to her outstanding performance, Zara has been invited to compete at the National Finals at WorldSKills UK Live in November, the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeship and careers event.

WorldSkills UK designs and runs skills competitions to accelerate young people’s development. They work with colleges to embed the right skills to meet the UK’s talent pipeline needs in new areas of economic and technical innovation and offer a range of skills competitions across Engineering & Technology; Digital, Business & Creative; Health, Hospitality & Lifestyle and Construction & Infrastructure.

Andrew Evans, managing director, said: “We are delighted to have Zara on the spa team at St Brides and to be able to support her at the beginning of what will no doubt be a very successful career. At a time when the hospitality sector could be facing a skills and labour shortage, we need to make sure we can offer great opportunities for all talented people, and it is wonderful to see how apprenticeships and technical education are being championed as prestigious career routes for young people. We wish Zara every success at the national finals in November.”
