Returning to the Dingle Club, passionate composer and musician Graham Pike will be joined by local favourites the John Gibbon Trio in a scintillating meeting of minds on Wednesday, October 21.
Graham Pike is a multi-talented and prolific character, a sparkling performer on trumpet, harmonica, flugelhorn and trombone, and he’s known for swapping instruments mid-tune, utilising sound FX or singing at the drop of a hi-hat.
Able to transgress from many styles like jazz and fusion to classical and trad-folk to blues, Graham’s sets are always varied and extraordinary with a large repertoire.
Expect to hear anything, including Fats Waller, Ellington, Gershwin, Miles, Parker, Chick Corea, ‘50s/’60s beat jazz, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan and Herbie Hancock.
On top of all this, he’s also a talented and in-demand composer for television, whose studio productions have included everything from BBC kids’ shows like Tweenies and Playdays to Crimewatch and Hearts of Gold, and his previous lives include decades of theatre work as pianist, musical director, composer, and arranger.
With everything from piano to scat-singing on the evening’s menu, this is sure to be a night not to be missed.
SpanJazz will take place at The Dingle Club, Narberth, a relaxed and comfortable spot, with world-class acts, real ales, and pizza available to order. Tickets are available from the Span Arts box office on 01834 869323 or online at span-arts.org.uk. Doors open at 7.15 pm. Music starts at 8 pm.
