The Span Arts mural controversy has been resolved after Pembrokeshire County Council granted retrospective planning permission, having been told it acted as a form of advertising.
The mural, completed by professional graffiti artists Peaceful Progress, has transformed the Span Arts building on the Town Moor in Narberth, sparking a lively debate amongst the community.
Over 200 people signed an online petition backing the mural, with support also coming from local businesses and MP Simon Hart, who described the new look of the building on the Town Moor as 'brilliant'.
The creative artwork generated a huge amount of positive publicity, having featured on ITV and S4C news, as well as a feature in the the Daily Mirror. Interaction via social media also reached 68,000 people, Span Arts' largest audience reach to date.
The mural features an image from Bianco, a performance from No Fit State Circus, which was brought to Narberth by Span Arts last year. Feedback from the public described the image as 'inspirational, creative and interesting', as well as 'bringing an upbeat contemporary vibe to the community'.
Span Arts manager, Gwen Watson, said:"We are thrilled that the council have decided to let us keep our mural. The support has been tremendous and has shown a real community spirit.
""We want to wholeheartedly thank everyone who wrote letters, signed our petitions, or have just popped in to say they like the mural. We're really glad we are contributing to the landscape of Narberth in a striking way."
Helping promote their vision of 'Arts For Everyone' and to highlight continued support for the mural, Span Arts are currently running a publicity campaign. Anyone passing the mural is encouraged to take a picture or 'selfie' next to the mural and share it via social media to show their support using hashtag #SpanSelfie.
