Span Arts is getting very excited about a new facelift for the building in the heart of Narberth.
“We are thrilled to say that thanks to funding from the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme and the Arts Council of Wales we will be updating and improving our premises on the Town Moor in 2019,” said Kathryn Lambert, director of Span Arts.
“As part of the upgrade, we will be getting the exterior and interior of the building painted in order to protect, refresh and maintain the building.
“We have a local painter and decorator lined up to repaint the building and we are now looking for a mural/public artist to replace the iconic graffiti on the side of our building with an imaginative and bold new mural.
“The current mural was painted by Peaceful Progress in 2014, depicting a piece by No Fit State Circus. It is now tired and a bit shabby and we think it’s time for a change!” she continued.
The controversial mural was painted nearly five years ago and really put Span Arts on the map by achieving national press attention at the time.
“Now we want something new which makes a bold statement about how the arts can change lives to reflect the diversity of our work, not just the live performance side,” explained Kathryn.
Span Arts is looking for imaginative, high quality and experimental proposals from artists and/or artist collectives for an artist fee of £1400.
The exterior will be painted dark grey this winter and the selected artist will be announced in the New year.
If you are a budding artist or known someone who is, please visit span-arts.org.uk for further details or to download the artists brief.
The selected artist will then develop their ideas and install the mural before the end of March 2019.
Not only are Span Arts updating the mural and providing opportunities for artists, they are also installing solar panels (through local solar firm My contribution) and a new phone system (through local tech firm Total Tech).
