Tenby town council have chosen their new Mayor-elect who is sure to sing the praises of the resort when she takes on the role.

Tenby’s own songstress Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall will don the scarlet robes of office for the first time, and fly the flag for the town when she is made Mayor of the resort in May.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, members were asked to elect a Mayor to fill the role for 2020/21, with Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall putting her name forward along with current Mayor Clr. Tony Brown for the position.

Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall told her fellow members that she would consider it ‘ an honour’ to be Mayor of the town, whilst Clr. Brown said he was keen to stand again for the role.

A secret ballot was held to determine who would be made Mayor, and Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall took the overall vote.

“Thank you to all my fellow councillors, and a big thank you to the current Mayor,” she said.

Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter said that it was lovely to be able to have two people on the town council that wanted to take on the role, and a credit to the council.

The mayor-elect’s husband Clr. Laurence Blackhall took the role himself in 2016/17.

Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall who joined the town council in December 2017 has outlined the importance of making Tenby a more dementia friendly town in recent times, and was one of the leading figures in introducing beach friendly wheelchairs to the resort last summer.

The Mayor-making ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 15.
