Sir,

We have seen several Blue Plaques commemorating illustrious people who have lived or holidayed in houses around Tenby. In September, we look forward to seeing Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday celebrated in ‘street theatre’.

May I, therefore, draw readers’ attention to a very current and successful son of Tenby who has been in the public eye this very week? ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’, which has just opened at the Palace Theatre to rave reviews, is penned by Jack Thorne, son of well known ex-Tenby residents, Mike and Maggie Thorne.

Jack was asked by the great J. K. Rowling to adapt her short story about the later life of H.P. for the stage. He was successful already, with several BAFTAS to his name, but to enter into the world of the famous wizard is some achievement!

Mike and Maggie are still much remembered (and missed) for their huge contribution to the town - street theatre, café culture, ‘Murder Mysteries’, and, perhaps, had they stayed, we may have seen far greater use made of the De Valence through Mike’s input and enthusiasm.

We know where Jack got his talent from - so congratulations to him and his parents. (Blue plaque going up soon on their old house in Lower Frog Street?)

June Howell,

Penally.
