Pupils at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf achieved one gold, one silver and seven bronze from 13 entries in this year's UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, which is aimed at students in Years 13 and below. It is run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) and is held in schools.

Over 98,000 pupils from across the UK entered, with the top 10 per cent receiving a gold certificate, the next 20 per cent silver and the next 30 per cent bronze. Approximately 1,000 of the highest scores are invited to sit the British Mathematical Olympiad, which is a follow-on competition from the SMC.

Bronze certificates were awarded to Morwenna Jones (Year 12), Kayleigh Danter (Year 12), Jared Rees (Year 12), Phoebe West (Year 12), Martha Walters (Year 12), William Carroll (Year 13) and Alex Ridge (Year 13), who also received the best in Year 13 certificate.

The silver certificate was awarded to Richard Phillips in Year 12, who was also awarded the best in Year 12 certificate and the gold certificate was awarded to Harvey Yau in Year 8, who was also awarded the best in school certificate. Harvey was also invited to sit the BMO round one, which he sat on November 30 and is awaiting his results.

The UK Mathematics Trust is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics.
