A fundraising pooch from Saundersfoot who was rescued from the streets of Romania and has since built up a large following on social media, is looking to embark on a tour next year to spread the word on how to enable dogs to seek a new life in a loving home in the UK.

Meg the ‘newshound’ has become quite the celebrity on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, and using her skills as a ‘fundraising entrepreneur’, she is always coming up with new ideas to raise vital funds, whether that’s through birthday shout outs to pets and humans, or even celebrities too.

Meg was a street dog in Romania, born due to spay and neutering not being as readily available as it is in the UK, she could not be cared for, loved or even fed day to day.

Romania has a huge problem with stray dogs and cats and Sirius Animal Rescue work tirelessly to rescue and re-home dogs following sterilisation.

“Sirius Animal Rescue picked her up off the street, she was four months old at the time, and was advertised for adoption and we fell in love with her immediately,” explained Meg’s owner Ceri Davidson.

“Meg then began her two-day journey on the ‘Sirius-ly Happy Bus’ from Romania to Wales and she now lives in Saundersfoot with us.

The story just begins here though, as Meg who turns three-year-old in February has become quite the celebrity on social media and has raised well over £10,000 for Sirius Animal Rescue and is the proud fundraising Mascot of UK based Sirius Star Fundraising.

Meg is always coming up with new ideas to raise vital funds through social media, and her interactions with fans has even seen her autograph photos of herself, as well as holding auctions and competitions.

Her latest venture has been ‘Megrobilia’ - a range of dog bandanas, poo bag holders which clip onto dog collars.

However, her most popular item in this Covid-19 climate has been her facemasks, which display a picture of Meg on them alongside logos for Sirius Animal Rescue and Sirius Star Fundraising. You may have seen them around.

On Facebook, Meg has 874 followers, and a whopping 8,814 followers on Twitter! She also uses YouTube to upload her songs and to keep them safe.

“Her interactions with her fans are really important and plays a big part in her following. She always likes to respond to every comment and like. Her paws are suffering but she insists!” continued Ceri.

“Meg has a great sense of humour and brings a lot of happiness, smiles and laughter to everyone’s face each day. Her accounts are real positive places and there is always lots of love and care too.”

Meg’s latest fundraising idea is something to behold - as she wants to tour the UK in Summer 2021 for four weeks in a campervan, visiting towns, cities, events and dog shows as part of a huge fundraiser for the dogs coming to the UK for a new life in a loving home.

“The financial side of transporting dogs over is a costly one and every penny counts along the way, so we are looking for a campervan/mobile home that we can use for a month next summer,” said Ceri.

“Along the way, Meg will meet her dedicated followers, sell signed photos, pose for selfies, sell Megrobilia items and give out vital information and public education regarding Sirius Animal Rescue, Romanian rescue dogs and everything that is involved with Spay, Neutering, Happy Bus needs and much much more.

“We are hoping that businesses such as pet suppliers, mobile home dealers and local business people may read our story and want to help us to make this happen.

“Sponsorship is also welcomed of course, van dealers may want to donate an actual Happy Bus, sign writers may offer to wrap the vehicle to make it unique too. The possibilities are endless. We just want to make this a big event and to raise awareness.

“We have big plans in mind about how we would spend any donations received whilst on Meg’s tour of the UK and the ultimate goal is to buy our own dog transport bus which would give us a vital opportunity to gain some self sufficiency in transporting dogs over from Romania to their new homes in the UK.

“We are expecting to raise thousands of pounds over the four-week period, we just need a campervan to do it in!” added Ceri who can be contacted via email at: [email protected]
