Tricks, treats and fiery festivities galore are taking place beside the seaside as the village of Saundersfoot stages its annual Big Bang Weekend.
The family-friendly event combines the thrills of Hallowe’en with the sparkling pyrotechnic delights of Bonfire Night, and will be held on Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31.
A funfair will be on the harbour car park from noon on both days, and there’s free entry for everyone into the Spooky Bat Trail. Find the cuddly creepy creatures in the shops and businesses around the village - and maybe take one home as a prize!
Pick up your entry form from the coffee kiosk near the harbour car park entrance.
Traders will be entering into the spirit of the occasion by decking out their windows in Hallowe’en style as they welcome 250 excited youngsters who are taking part in the Friday night Trick or Treat trail between 6 and 7 pm, organised by the village youth club. This will be followed by a disco in the Regency Hall from 7 to 9 pm.
Anyone who would like to take part in this event should make sure they are in Saundersfoot Sports Club before 6 pm to pick up a £2.50 ticket, as a sell-out is forecast. All proceeds will go to Saundersfoot Youth Club and playgroup.
The weekend also features a competition for the best carved pumpkin. Entries should be taken along to Dilys Photography Gallery from Friday onwards, in time for judging at 5 pm on the Saturday.
Excitement mounts on Saturday ahead of the spectacular free fireworks display at 7.30 pm.
In charge of the pyrotechnics are Galaxy Fireworks, the company responsible for Saundersfoot’s renowned New Year’s Eve show.
And if you can tear your eyes from the skies, don’t forget to look out for the zombies mingling with the crowds…. they’re all hoping you have a fang-tastic time and that you can show your appreciation with a donation in their buckets.
There will be limited parking on the harbour, with more parking nearby in the Regency Hall car park and just a short walk away at Coppet Hall, via the spooky tunnel at the end of The Strand.
Saundersfoot’s Big Bang Weekend is organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, whose chairman, Phil Odley, said: “Everything is in place for a great weekend, with fun for all the family and hopefully a boost to our hard-working local businesses.”
