Rotary in South Wales sponsors students to spend a week at Dolygaer, which is an outdoor activity centre in the Brecon Beacons north of Merthyr.

Outdoor activities include canoeing, caving, orienteering, gorge walking and like activities.

On the week in question, 26 students arrived on Friday, none of whom knew each other. They were divided into teams to start on the activities and each student returned to his or her own group to lead them in that particular discipline. At the end of the week, everybody knew each other and had made new friends and had gained in confidence and leadership skills.

Narberth and Whitland Club had carefully chosen from strong competition two students, from Ysgol Dyffryn Taf Geraint Phillips and from Ysgol y Preseli Emily Lloyd. Geraint and Emily had combined to give a talk about their experiences during the week and the talk was illustrated with slides.

They gave a very interesting account of their experiences and thanked the club for their sponsorship. They both benefited from the experience and gained much confidence and many friends.

Thanks on behalf of the club were expressed by past president John Sleigh.
