Last Sunday afternoon and evening, the Rotary Club of Tenby held its second summer event of the year and just like the one a fortnight ago, when the weather was fantastic, it proved to be a great success.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, it was generally rather cloudy but it remained dry and there was no strong wind. Consequently, the event at the picturesque harbour was again very well attended.
Following the official opening by Tenby’s Mayor, Sue Lane, Seren Irish Dancers opened the event. Ages ranged from just three to well into teens. As usual, the performances were well choreographed and appreciated by all present.
Chloe provided the first entertainment for the many children present. She got them all to dance for prizes and her act culminated with the largest “okee kokee” ever witnessed at Tenby harbour.
Matt the Magician captivated the audience, both children and adults, with his slick tricks and humour. His performance finished with a wonderful Punch and Judy show.
The first of last Sunday’s bands were The Candy Skulls from Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.
Their set comprised numerous well known rhythm and blues numbers which were loved by the large crowd.
The headline act were The Collective, a well known Tenby four piece band. They played an eclectic mix of rock ‘n’ roll songs for a full hour and a half. The appreciative audience wanted more but unfortunately the music had to stop at 10 pm.
The finale of the Harbour Spectacular was another magnificent firework display from the end of the pier. This was witnessed by many thousands of people who were on the harbour or lining the overlooking streets. Rotarians from Melbourne in Australia allegedly claimed the display was better than that at Sydney Harbour on New Years Eve!
Although expenses are high, Tenby Rotary Club has raised lots of money from its two events at Tenby harbour this summer. In due course, this will be distributed via donations to numerous local, national and international charities.
Tenby Rotary is a small but very successful club. New members are always welcome and, in this regard, interested persons may wish to speak with the President, Tom Cullen, on 07970-870505 or indeed any Tenby Rotarians.

The last of this year’s Harbour Spectaculars will be this Sunday - organised by Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions Club whose President Rob Mayhew acted as DJ for Rotary last Sunday.
Needless to say, all at Tenby Rotary wish the Lions success on Sunday.
