An Elvis-themed video promoting Pembrokeshire’s new waste and recycling scheme has melted even the most wooden of hearts.

Starring five of Pembrokeshire County Council’s refuse and recycling team, the film – which was posted on YouTube on Friday - had received some 8,000 views just over the weekend.

The five employees – Nigel Orchard, Vinny Murphy, Marcus Allen, Rob Hood and Darren Stannett - were filmed at Strumble Head, Wolf Rock near Letterston and other locations locally.

The video showcases the new recycling kerbside sort vehicle and shows the team singing a recycling-themed version of The Wonder of You, one of Elvis’ biggest hits.

The video idea came from Mark Bond, the Pembrokeshire Eco Champion Project Co-ordinator, who also provided the lyrics. Mark’s post is Welsh Government funded via Arwain Sir Benfro and the video was produced by Media to Motion Ltd.

Comments posted include ‘absolutely brilliant’ and ‘LITTERally crying with laughter watching this’.

Clr. Cris Tomos, the Council’s Environment, Public Protection and Welsh Language, Cabinet Member, said: “The new music video is a great way to raise awareness about the changes in waste collection in Pembrokeshire.

“It is good to see staff being so creative about getting the message out there in a popular and musical way.”

Pembrokeshire’s new waste and recycling scheme will be launched on November 4.
