Saundersfoot Harbour Commissioners are currently holding a public consultation exhibition with regards to the second phase of the redevelopment of the seaside village’s harbour as part of the Wales International Coastal Centre scheme.
Members of the public are invited to meet the harbour team and review the developments underway and proposed, at the exhibition which takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at Unit 3, Cambrian Terrace, in the village, between 9.30 am and 4 pm.
The £10million regeneration scheme described as ‘modern and innovative’ with the aim to transform Saundersfoot’s traditional harbour into a major focal point on the Welsh coastline, is set to go into its second phase, with planning applications for the next stage due to be submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority soon.
Work at the harbour has already taken place with a new slipway, sea wall and boat racking system installed, and the sluice partly decked over, while construction of the new Marine Centre of Excellence and National Centre for Coastal Tourism, is due to start later this year.
Further plans to extend the decking area offering a unique public open space area for Saundersfoot, both for community and national scale events, ranging from theatrical and musical performances and food and craft festivals, also form part of the plans.
Michael Davies, chief executive officer at Saundersfoot Harbour explained that revised drawings for the proposals for a true recreation of a ‘Tall Ship’ vessel that once worked out of Saundersfoot Harbour and the community hub of the Coal Office and Ocean Square will be on display at the consultation exhibition, and that the feedback of the public is very much welcomed.
