An event held in Tenby to mark the centenary celebrations of author Roald Dahl has been praised by local councillors.
The Eastend Flyover Company, an amateur dramatics group based in Pembroke, recently staged an original piece of theatre to celebrate the life of the author who holidayed in the resort as a child, with the show running from Friday through to Sunday, beginning at the De Valence Pavilion, before moving out into the town.
“The hall in the De Valence looked brilliant and the organisers were a really friendly bunch of people,” said Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council.
“Due to the rain on the Friday, they did the whole performance at the De Valence that day, and it had a terrific response, so I congratulate them on the whole event,” she continued, also praising the Ironman Wales crew who had held the briefings at the venue.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said that the events, with a theatre production company one week, and then the Ironman conference and awards the next, showed the versatility of the venue’s hall.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from the organisers. It’s proved a busy time, but really good,” he said.
Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter praised the hard voluntary work from Clr. Brown and Clr. Blackhall, along with that of the town clerk and his assistant.
“We’ve been able to spend our profits wisely and develop assets at the De Valence, with all the lighting to be updated,” continued Clr. Mrs. Brown.
“The new lighting, as it’s eco friendly, will save us a lot of money on electricity in the future,” added Clr. Paul Rapi.
