A RECENT announcement from the Welsh Labour Government to boost hospice funding falls far short of what is needed say Welsh Conservatives, whose own commitments far exceed it.
The £4.3 million support package will provide short-term relief to children’s and adult hospices facing rising costs. However, the Welsh Conservatives have pledged £40 million over the course of a Senedd term - almost ten times the level of support.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Peter Fox MS, said:
"After 27 years of Labour, propped up by Plaid Cymru, our health service has been underfunded and hospice care neglected for far too long.
"This latest pledge from Labour will barely scratch the surface of what is needed to support hospices and the vital care they provide.
"The Welsh Conservatives have a clear and credible plan to invest an extra £40 million into hospices, improving palliative and end-of-life care for patients and their families across Wales."
