LOCAL funeral directors W & MJ Rossiter & Sons Ltd have been given the go-ahead to relocate their Narberth offices to the town’s former police station.
It follows the decision by Dyfed-Powys Police to put the Jesse Road premises on the market as part of a three-year £10 million saving plan, having assessed the site as no longer suitable for modern day policing requirements. Police are committed to maintaining the same level of service in Narberth, they said, as they announced plans to move to a new base with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Services in Spring Gardens.
W & MJ Rossiter & Sons purchased the former police station, judging it to be the only suitable premises “after conducting a comprehensive search of all commercial property listings with parking within the Narberth postcode area, covering every local estate agent, specialist commercial agent, and major online property platform.”
A statement accompanying the application to Pembrokeshire County Council through agent RPC Design & Architecture Ltd, said the funeral directors, established in 1949, had been based at their current offices for some 18 years but the current site in Narberth’s Station Road, having no on-site parking, no disabled access, and a shortage of space, no longer meets the needs of its clients or its growing team.
The statement added that the former police station site would allow Rossiters to continue providing the same high standard of service, but in a way that is “more accessible, sustainable, and future-ready.”
Supporting documents said: “Our business is firmly established in Narberth, with a loyal customer base and operational networks that depend on this location. Moving outside the area would undermine the stability, reputation, and continuity of the business, making this premises the only viable option.”
Narberth Town Council supported the application, which was conditionally approved by county planning officers.
