Proposals to open two new food outlets in Tenby have been given the thumbs down by local councillors.

At their meeting on Tuesday night, members of Tenby Town Council considered two planning applications for recommendation to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

The first a change of use from B1 (offices) to A3 (café) at 1 Warren Street, Tenby, submitted by Mr. Rhys Jordan, of Feels Good Inc Ltd., Tenby Leisure Centre, was refused on the grounds that members felt that they didn’t want to lose office space opportunities in the town to create another café.

Councillors also had concerns that the plans would be detrimental to that area as the premises is located between two churches.

An application from Mr. John Richards, of Victoria Bakery, Victoria Street, Laugharne, for a change of use from closed A1 retail bakery to A3 hot food takeaway at The Laugharne Bread Shop, on 2 Church Street in Tenby, was also refused by councillors, as they felt it was contrary to policies included in the Local Development Plan as the proposal would create a concentration of more than a third of non A1 (retail) uses within a primary frontage within the town centre.

They also felt that the takeaway operation would have a detrimental effect on the nearby garden of remembrance at St. Mary’s Church.
