An energy saving project for Herbrandston’s community hub is hoping for grant approval from te National Park this week.
Herbrandston Sports and Recreation Association has applied for £30,046 from the park’s sustainable development fund towards the installation of roof mounted solar panels and battery storage.
An application report to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park committee dealing with the fund states that the recently completed new build will require extra energy to heat and light and the proposed photovoltaic panels will reduce its carbon footprint.
The total cost of the project is £37, 558.
The application, to be decided on January 20, is recommended for approval subject to available funding on the grounds it is a well used sports and recreation hub in the national park and the panels will generate renewable energy.
“The panels will provide future reduction in energy from the grid. Any surplus energy will be sold back to the grid and funds reinvested,” it adds.
