A application to retain additional buildings at a independent school near Narberth was withdrawn from planning committee this week.

Pembrokeshire County Council had been due to discuss Castle School’s application to vary previous planning conditions classing some buildings as temporary at its Grade II listed mansion.

The school also wanted to keep a number of wooden buildings and a closed board fence at Sodston Manor.

The application had been recommended for refusal but at Tuesday’s meeting (September 4) committee chairman Clr. David Howlett said the application had been withdrawn the previous day.

“No further work will be carried out on this application,” said Clr. Howlett.

A 2015 planning application included conditions requiring the removal of classroom buildings, kitchen/dining hall and toilet from the land by September 2017.

A more permanent replacement, in keeping with the character and appearance of the listed building, was meant to have been designed in that two-year period.

The wooden buildings include ‘summer house’ type single classrooms, a toilet block as well as a double classroom.

Also part of the application was a proposal to convert an agricultural shed into a sports hall.

There are currently 115 pupils attending Castle School a report for Tuesday’s planning committee stated and supporting statements that funds to replace the temporary buildings were not available.
