Proposals to redevelop Llanteg service station off the A477 have been scuppered.

Euro Garages lost a planning appeal against a decision by Pembrokeshire County Council last year not to grant planning permission.

The proposed development would have seen the demolition of the existing petrol filling station and adjacent bungalow and the erection of a replacement forecourt canopy, pump island, underground tanks, parking, landscaping and sales building.

The latter would have included a store, office, WC, drive-thru and a 481 square metre convenience store together with an ATM machine.

The appeal hearing was told that the site – a ten minute drive east of Kilgetty – currently contains Llangteg’s only village shop.

In dismissing the appeal, planning inspector Paul Selby said the proposal had potentially harmful impacts on the vitality and viability of designated retail centres such as Kilgetty.

He also voiced road safety concerns and cited the fact that the existing bungalow housed roosting bats, a protected species.
