A plan for a new touring caravan park near Llanteg has been refused by Pembrokeshire County Council.

Members of the planning committee had deferred the application by Tenby Tourers for a site visit before Christmas but did not agree to go against policy and approve the plan.

The application to change an agricultural field into a site for 43 caravan pitches was recommended for refusal as it was against planning policies.

Speaking on behalf of the applicant, planning agent Gerald Blain, said the park would see £1.5million of investment, contribute around £200,000 a year into the local economy as well as secure six jobs and create four more.

There is currently a touring caravan sales and repair business run next to the site by the applicant, as well as a cafe run by a third party.

Amroth Community Council had raised concerns “about the potential threat regarding road safety” highlighting the large amount of traffic using the A477 – which the site adjoins – and speed levels.

Clr. Tim Evans said: “We should be supporting tourism.”

And there was also support from Clr. David Pugh who said there was a need for more caravan pitches.

The majority of councillors did not feel the planning policies were outweighed and voted to refuse the application.
