Sir,
I have to say I was somewhat perturbed by the quite negative attitude from some created by efforts by myself and Clr. Mike Williams to convince Pembrokeshire County Council to retain Tenby Infants School building.
This building is situated outside of my ward, but when I was invited to support this cause, I accepted and met with the chief executive officer at PCC and Clr. Williams to explore an alternative arrangement which may well suit all interested parties.
These talks have, to date, been quite positive. To be criticised at times comes with the territory, and I accept that. However, as an old soldier once told me: “If you want to avoid the flak, you should stay clear of the target.”
I was not elected to do that and whilst an opportunity to save this building exists, I will continue to support any moves which could save the old school and return a large percentage of the total area back to green space.
It seems those who may not have a full understanding of an elected member’s position with regard to pre-determining a planning application, may have consequently perceived the timing to have been less than perfect.
Clr. Jonathan Preston,
Penally ward
