Young people in Pembrokeshire have been given a behind-the-scenes look at what a career in broadcast journalism might offer.

A BBC roadshow bus visited Tenby and Haverfordwest recently to whet the appetite of budding Tv and radio reporters.

Manned by BBC employees, the young people were able to experience first-hand how to compile news packages and assume the roles of presenter, interviewee and director as well as ‘commentating’ on a sports game

They were also told about the BBC Wales plan to offer ten digital journalism apprencticeships which start from next September.

The ‘taster days’ are all part of the Corporation’s commitment to develop new talent.

Around 40 students from Greenhill School in Tenby, Haverfordwest High and Pembrokeshire College took part.

Alongside them were young people involved in the European-funded Cam Nesa programme, which helps 16 to 24-year-olds not involved in education, training or employment.

Said one, Bryani-Jean Kelly, currently engaging with Cam Nesa: “I really enjoyed the aspects of filming. I’m hoping that this will give me more experience in the field of journalism.”
