This year’s show at Lamphey proved to be quite a show-stopper.

The weather brought the crowds out to the field and they were not disappointed with their day out.

The Show, headed by chairman Mr Edward Morris of Loveston Farm was truly memorable.

There were many trade stands, both agricultural and non-agricultural on the field and a full to capacity shopping mall marquee which gave visitors plenty to see.

This was along with the newly renamed ‘Competitions’ Marquee which is run by the Ladies Committee section of the Pembroke Farmers’ Club. This was brimming with exhibits showing the talents of people in and around South Pembrokeshire.

The turnout for the Vintage, Classic cars and motor bikes was excellent, probably record breaking for the Show. The agricultural vintage section was also very well attended and new for this year was a marquee with a fine display of photographs and information on vintage tractors etc.

In the ring the crowds were well entertained by the beautiful horses shown, and in the entertainments ring there were continuous attractions taking place during the entire day.

The new attraction for 2019 – the Paws for Thought Dog Display Team from Hereford provided truly outstanding entertainment.

The antics of the dogs thrilled the crowds as they performed and the most daring of the canine troupe came as they jumped through hoops of fire. Children were invited to take part in some of the demonstrations.

Meirion Owen continued the entertainment with his Quack Pack as his dogs manoeuvred the ducks through an obstacle course.

Children’s entertainment outside of the ring was provided by Bongo Clive and Little Monsters.

These worked hard all day and had the younger visitors captivated with their musical instruments, songs and balloon modelling.

The face painting was as popular as ever. Inside the marquee members of Pembroke Messy Church provided plenty of entertainment for little ones, as did Debbie Vine with her Have-a-go-Pottery stand.

The Fairground, Bucking Bronco and the 224 Pembroke Yeomanry provided entertainment also.

The Show Committee are indebted to Landmarc Services of Castlemartin Range for their support in stewarding the Show and helping with the car parking this year, along with the Tanyard Youth Club.

The local Fire Brigade gave an exciting demonstration of how they might be called to deal with a car following a road traffic accident.

The crowd were treated to a demonstration of modern farm machinery given by local contractor Mr Michael Merriman of Saundersfoot. Michael demonstrated how straw is picked up, baled and wrapped in one go with his new Fusion Baler.

Mr Roger Lewis gave an informative commentary as Michael worked.

Michael was asked how much this kit might cost an onlooker should they wish to buy one and the reply was that the tractor and baler would set them back at least £160,000.

This gave visitors to the countryside an insight of modern-day farming which they probably would not experience otherwise.

The audience were much amused by Michael’s companion on the tractor – his Jack Russell terrier Benjie, who accompanies Michael on his work everywhere.

Following this display the Cresselly Fox Hounds entered the ring and provided a memorable display for the crowd.

Unfortunately, due to TB restrictions and the Six Day Movement Rule, the cattle entries were down in number. However, the Sheep & Goat classes were very well attended.

The sheep dog trialling was very well attended and they had very good conditions to work the dogs this year.

The companion Dog Show, run by Sylvia Britt, provided yet another excellent attraction.

The Fur and Feather Classes were fairly well attended and local exhibitors Messrs John & Billy Edwards of Monkton won the Show Champion with their lovely call ducks.

Mr Derek Howells of Newport won Reserve Champion this year with his Welsummer chicken. The Club is very grateful to Mrs Caroline Clarke and her daughters for their continuous support and very large entry of poultry ranging from Canaries to Turkeys and Geese.

Kim Brickell and her dad Nigel brought along a new display of day-old chicks which enthralled the visitors both young and old.

The Section is very grateful to Mr Paul Tucker, well known amongst the poultry fraternity, for travelling down to Pembroke to judge the poultry.

Once again, the Club wishes to express its gratitude to the Phillips family of Windsor Farm for the use of their fields for the ever-expanding show.
