The Foundry House, Pembroke became a Repair Café last Friday.

Under the supervision of Marty and Philippa, the morning saw members of Pembroke Dock Men’s Shed and the Anchorage Centre unite with other volunteers to offer a free repair service for electricals, clothing, toys, ornaments and household items.

Projects included fixing a vacuum cleaner, PAT testing a hairdryer and creating some bunting.

Repair cafés are monthly pop-up events where volunteers fix household items for free in order to reduce waste, teach skills and bring the community together.

Repair Café takes place at The Foundry House, Orange Way, Pembroke SA71 4DR on the third Friday of every month, from 10 am to 12 noon. The next session is on July 15.

There is also a Repair Café at Scolton Manor, 1 to 4 pm on the second Thursday of each month.

Older electricals have proved particularly fixable; one example being a reel-to-reel tape machine whose tapes had been sent between brothers across the Atlantic.

Do you want something fixed for free? Bring it to the Foundry House and the team of volunteers will try their best to fix it.

It’s a free service, however donations from happy customers are always welcome. Repair Café Wales receives a grant from the Welsh Government via Wales Council for Voluntary Action. The funding helps them develop practical skills within the local community, encouraging resilience and self sufficiency.
